The Product Development Manager develops and drives innovative products that meet overall Arbonne brand strategies. This role is responsible for the development of Color Cosmetics, Holiday, and Personal Care products. This unique role combines creative R&D, color matching, natural fragrance and personal care product development with strong project management skills. The Product Development Manager is responsible for managing the product development process, from formula concept to pilot production and works with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Quality, and R&D to develop formulas and technologies to support marketing objectives and future innovation. This position ensures all products are launched on time and meet high quality standards.
Manage 2-3 product development team members • Oversee formulation process from concept to approval to ensure new product quality, appearance and effectiveness. • Expert in developing color cosmetics in all areas of complexion, lip, eye, and seasonal color stories. • Expert in natural fragrance development for personal care products • Analyze trends and fashion forecasts. • Oversee formula scale up and technical transfer process onsite and at third party manufacturers. • Establish innovative Research & Development ingredient platforms through active research of new technologies, active ingredients and competitive analysis. • Identify benchmarks and/or develop formula prototypes. • Create and distribute comprehensive Product Development Requests (PDR’s). • Lead official formula briefings to both internal R&D and external contract manufacturers. • Lead on-site lab work independently with R&D to direct shade/texture development when required. • Create content and implement product related survey for internal panel testing. • Work proactively with Packaging Engineer to drive technical packaging needs. • Initiate Regulatory ingredient and formula assessments. • Partner, motivate, and support R&D to obtain the highest quality standards. • Execute all formula approvals for aesthetics and desired attributes on time while meeting cost targets. • Manage safety and efficacy testing requirements. • Provide technical product information for Marketing and Field Development programs. • Collaborate with Regulatory, Legal, Marketing, and Supply Chain departments to ensure compliance of product claims and formulas for existing and/or new emerging markets. • Design internal home use test studies for aesthetic evaluation. • Collaborate with Marketing to develop external marketing research studies. • Attend annual Global Training Conference. • Attend seminars, key supplier conferences and industry events, as needed, to stay abreast of new trends, textures, and technology.
• Manage, approve and track pilot and first 3 production standards and specifications. • Keep abreast of all new competitive product launches in the marketplace and review competitive formulas as possible base prototypes for new product introductions
